New Teacher CERTIFICATION FORMS

All teachers are required to be certified for the position to which they are hired. The typical pathway involves an initial certification that leads to continuing certification. Provisional Certificates are given for initial certification. They are valid for two years. During these years, mentors are provided to support the teacher and recommend continuing certification. These are Professional Certificates which are valid for 5 years. 90 credit hours, documented through a combination of coursework and professional development credits are required for renewals of Professional Certificates. Occasionally, teachers moving to Maine from another state or teachers moving to new types of positions need to request Conditional, Transitional, or Targeted Needs Certificates. The committee oversees the development of these certificates as well.

ALL TEACHERS ARE REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN THEIR CURRENT CERTIFICATION AT CENTRAL OFFICE. HARD COPIES OF CERTIFICATES MUST BE SENT TO SHARON BERNIER BEFORE SEPTEMBER 30 OF THE CERTIFICATE'S FIRST YEAR OF ISSUE.
